Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter.
First Medal Of The Year
Finally March has arrived and tomorrow sees the first Medal of the year. No doubt the course will seem like it's doubled in length to many people as the tees will be towards the backs but it will be a welcome return for many to competitive golf.
Ticked Off The Bucket List
This week Sarah and I had the pleasure of playing one of my bucket list courses, Walton Heath with Tony and Michele Brown. I can remember watching it on TV many years ago and I finally had the pleasure of playing it on Wednesday. For anyone who hasn't it's well worth a visit, it's a classic Braid designed heathland course full of tight fairways and plenty of heather.
You never know what you're quite going to get when you visit old established clubs but we couldn't have been made more welcome from the catering staff to the professional and admin people it really was a nice friendly golf club. Definitely worth a visit.
For the record Sarah and I edged a good game, the front side was uninspiring with Sarah and me winning it with 16 points better ball but we won the back 9 by a point despite us coming back in with 24 points which included 5 birdies and an eagle, the latter was only good enough for a half as Tony managed one on the same hole!
It proved to be a well-timed visit to play such a course as Sarah and I have received a late call up to the Sunningdale Foursomes in 10 days' time. It's my first time in the tournament, one I've wanted to play in for years as Philip always used to rave about it and the quality of course and opposition. Looking at the draw, I think on our side we have Sandy Lyle, Tommy Fleetwood and Paul Lawrie playing so hopefully we will hang around for a while and get to play against one of those pairings.

Seniors 4BBB Stableford
On Monday 40 Seniors played in a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford Competition. The weather was poor to start and got worse, so the last game which included the winners had the worst. So they must have played well, in fact between them they had 4 holes scoring 4 points!
1st - Chris Martin & Bernard Clarke - 49 points
2nd - David Wiseman & Chris Knight - 46 points (on C/B)
3rd - Geoff Mansfield & Roger Cowan - 46 points
Nearest the pin on the 11th was David Wiseman.

Walden Put Up Fight against Strong County Side
SWGC Scratch Team took on a strong Cambridgeshire county side at Windmill Hill last Sunday. In the morning foursomes Cambridgeshire took a 2.5 and 1.5 lead going into lunch. For Walden, Olly Tuck and Ian Macdonald beat Loveday and Hodgkin 4 and 3 - Graham Goodman and Louis Martin halved their match against Meeds and Kumar.
In the afternoon singles, Callum Brookes beat Cambridgeshire captain Mark Reeve 3 and 1 going round in 4 under par. Macdonald completed a winning day for him beating Hodgkin 3 and 1. Walden halved the two back games with both Goodman and Martin coming back from 4 down after 9 holes to halve their games against Kumar and Meeds respectively. Cambridgeshire won the other 4 games and eventually ran out winners 7.5 and 4.5.
Captain Goodman said "The team really fought hard today especially Ian Macdonald performing magnificently. The academy players played well and Louis Martin showed great determination in halving his foursomes game and halving his singles against county opposition"
