Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter.
It's been another busy week at the club and as I speak the Carnival charity day is being set up on the course. The course is looking lovely and having played at a few others recently you come back to appreciate the condition of ours particularly considering how dry it's been. As you will read from the reports in the newsletter there has been more success individually for the juniors with Josh Izod winning the IAPS National title in Wales and the Scratch team turning their season round after a poor start with another convincing win over Brampton despite Graham not picking up on Richard Southalls humour (Don't worry Graham not many do!)
You may have seen all the Pro shop staff out playing recently, contrary to popular belief it is something we try and do. Aaron and I are preparing for another go at the National 4BBB with the East region qualifier on Monday at Bush Hill Park as well as other order of Merit events and Pro Am's. Sarah is continuing her preparation for her upcoming events including Ladies Open qualifying and Callum is keeping his golf levels topped up for the main part of his season which includes being selected for Cambridgeshire for a 6 man event.
Walden Safe from Relegation
The scratch team supported by Amherst Homes turned their season around and saved themselves from the prospect of relegation after a 4-2 win home to Brampton Park last Wednesday night. In a season blighted by challenges from every corner Goodman's men put SWGC first and delivered last night.
The Brampton Park captain reversed their order in the need for points themselves. Goodman stuck to his guns and sent the strong pairings out first. Olly Tuck and Mark Reeve went out first and were shooting birdies from their hip at will and won 7 up.
In what proved to be a pivitol game Callum Brookes and his experienced figure of Ian Macdonald destroyed their opposition 7 up as well. In the last match Louis Martin and Graham Goodman battled hard and topped out for an unfortunate 2 down loss against Brampton's strongest pairing.
Graham Goodman said "This win personally ranks high up there with all the scratch league wins and Goddard cups we have won in that the team really focussed after all the challenges we faced and especially staring the prospect of relegation. Olly, Mark, Callum and Ian truly deserve iconic Walden status in their total focus last night."

IAPS National (Independent Association of Prep Schools) Tournament 2017
Josh Izod took part in the IAPS tournament on Tuesday, 13 June 2017 at MacDonald Hill Valley Golf Club in Shropshire.
He did a practice round on the 12th and played yesterday in the Under 12s and won, with 47 points, 20 points on the front and 27 on the back. The organisers play it as a scratch tournament, making everyone play off 18 handicap. So the tournament favoured the low handicappers, some of them played off 4 and 6
The Under 13 age group was won by a boy from Millfield School with 48 points, so Josh nearly won the age group above.
Josh's score gross on the front 9, was 5 over and on the back 9 he played brilliantly, scoring level par gross, he had 3 birdies on the back.
He is well chuffed, he's now the IAPS under 12 National Champion.
