Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter.
It's going to be a busy weekend at the club as the Captains weekend and all its festivities are upon us! It starts this evening with the Jacob Gambles junior captains day finishing with Melissa's on Tuesday with Saturdays 4BBB and Sundays mixed sandwiched in-between. Good luck to everyone playing over the next few days and I hope all goes well and the Captains have chance to enjoy themselves and the events.
East Region 4BBB
Aaron and I played in the high temperatures on Monday at Bush Hill Park in the East Region 4BBB, not to miss out on the sun we had a 11.10 tee time as Aaron and me are really built for heat particularly as it took 5 hours 20 minutes to get round. We played very steady, had six birdies between us but four unforced errors from inside 90 yards cost us a place of going through to the next stages.
It started as I over read a 3 foot putt on the second for birdie and finished with both of us missing the green short from a total of about 75 yards on our 16th. Unfortunately short meant water! A hole which is normally 6 iron wedge turned into 6 iron oh dear we are too close to the green playing off a downhill slope, tight lies and no green to work with. We finished on -4 and missed out by two.
As ever it was great to play with Aaron, not just because he turned up with Ice water and a tub of sweets but we do seem to gel quite well in this event and hopefully next year we will be able to make it to the finals again. Maybe we just need St Mellion to be the destination to inspire us to victory.
Golf Psychology Evening
On Monday night this week The Mind Zone, golf psychology duo visited the ladies section of the golf club. The session filled its maximum numbers and all the ladies have passed comments during the week of how interesting the session was and how it's changed their mindset to look on a more positive side of their game.
Here is what Claire Richardson had to say; "This was a great evening providing an energetic insight into how your mind works on (& off) the golf course with processes to work through to carry you through to your next shot/hole/game."
Golf psychology is a massive part of your golf game, if you can keep a steady mind during the game, it will help you stay relaxed and in a neutral mode ready to get through any bad and good shots! We are hoping to run another session which will be opened up to all members of the club during the autumn season, but if this is something you feel interested in sooner, please let me know.
I have worked alongside The Mind Zone for 6 months now and I feel as though my golf mind has improved on the course throughout a lot of my tournament play, there's a few techniques I've been taught to keep calm and trust my swing!

Seniors Match v Newmarket - Friday, 16 June
The Seniors Team lead by Geoff Woollerson travelled to The Links at Newmarket to play the NAGS in the return fixture. All week we have had lovely hot weather, but Friday changed at Newmarket. It was overcast and there was a strong wind blowing. Peter Still and Derek Green halved their match as did Colin Brown and Colin Murrant but Alf Magona and Chris Martin were the "real deal" and won 3 &1. Unfortunately poor Match Captain Geoff had to announce a lost match at 6 - 2 but he did point out that we won the home tie.
You might like to know that my playing partner, Annon has decided that The Links are much flatter than Walden and believe it or not was trying to negotiate a transfer!!!

Records tumble at Erin Hills
There's no arguing that Ryder Cup player Brooks Koepka was the deserved winner of the 117th US Open at Erin Hills. The American carded a wonderful final round of 67 to win by four, having gone into Sunday one shot off the lead alongside playing partner Tommy Fleetwood.
Justin Thomas also found himself one shot back with 18 holes to play, something which looked rather unlikely before a historic 63 vaulted him up the leader board on 'moving day' whilst breaking the record for the lowest-ever US Open round in the process.
But this wasn't the only record to fall last week, as Koepka's four-round total (16 under) equalled the US Open's lowest winning score which was previously set by Rory McIlroy back in 2011.
With much of the pre-tournament hype focusing on the penal rough lining the fairways, it probably doesn't come as a surprise to learn that Koepka hit 49 out of 56 fairways across the four days whilst also managing to find 62 out 72 greens in regulation - including 17 during his final round! Truly impressive golf.
Koepka had the Mizuno JPX900 Tour irons in his bag this week, this slim-line iron matches Mizuno’s MP ranges for control and workability, but brings more forgiveness to the table.
We have these irons available for you to try out or have a custom fitting with so click here if you are interested in using the same clubs as the latest Major champion.
