Day out at Elsham As the course was undergoing some greens treatment this week Sarah and I went to support my brothers Pro Am at Elsham Golf Club. I took Saffron Walden's biggest twitter user Alan Seymour and an old familiar face Steve Trench to play and we were joined by a member from the local course, Phil. The course was playing as long as I've seen it with the ball not rolling very far and what seemed like a 2/3 club into wind on every hole. This made tee shots tricky as a lot of the holes are not set up to hit driver but due to the conditions you felt like you had to pull it out to give yourself a chance. I got off to my usual exciting start with mainly pars on the first 6 holes only to throw a few silly ones away on the last 3 on the front 9. After a stern word with myself a managed a decent back 9, which is normally the harder to finish 12th. Sarah had a better front half than me but gave away a few on the back to finish a couple of spaces behind, not bad for her first visit to the course. The day was won by Paul Streeter who shot 67 to win by two. Sarah's team faired better than mine in the Pro am as they came 5th and got into the prizes. We had plenty of birdies including a superb up and down out of the sand on the 11th from Alan, which I'll let him talk you through, but unfortunately we gave too many away to just miss out on the prize table. A good time was had by all and the hotel we stayed at was fantastic, a trip we will definitely be doing again next year. Thanks to Alan, Steve and Sarah for the trip to Scunny, and we didn't have our cars nicked!
