Hello and welcome to this week’s newsletter,
Aaron and I attended the PGA East Region seminar this week, normally this is a game of golf, a bit of a moan at the AGM and a meal plus CPD points on the PGA afterwards. This year was different, we were told that there would be no golf and the new Chief Executive would be giving a talk. Not the most exciting agenda we've ever had sent through as it was going to last 6 hours. However, I was pleasantly surprised and for the first time optimistic about how the PGA are being run and the plans for the future. It seems that a big shake up has occurred at the Belfry, a lot of the old guard have moved on and the new man at the helm Robert Maxfield has installed a new team that has a vision to make the PGA more modern and relevant. This includes being more member rather than brand focused, working more with golf unions and the R&A, giving the regional secretary more freedom to get round and see the Pro’s in the region and working more with golf clubs and local communities. Certainly a lot of this seems to fit into the role of the modern professional who tries to work more with clubs and community in an attempt to grow the game and promote the profile of the club. What really came across was none of the plans were short term or without thought and all were working round the membership of the PGA to get the best out of us and support us in our work. A refreshing change to what we have known in the past!
