Seniors Match vs John O'Gaunt The Match Captain for the day was the Club Captain Graham Jones who submitted this report. The seniors played their second match of the season on Tuesday away at John ‘O Gaunt. This is always one of the most popular matches on the calendar. The weather was sharp but after the rubbish we have had to put up with recently it was a big step in the right direction. The match was played on The Carthegena Course and even though this is their second course, has made big strides forward since I last played it two years ago. There are a selection of new tees, bunkers are really well prepared, (not that I saw many at close quarters), and the greens were good for so early in the season. When all things were taken into consideration there was nothing no one could blame, sadly, for the scale of our defeat!! However, there are 7-1 losses and there are 7-1 losses and this was one of the latter! Of the eight matches played only one (the one involving yours truly) can really be regarded as a hiding, and all this despite Derek’s best efforts. Elsewhere all the other games were decided on either the 17th, or 18th holes! So as I was saying as 7-1 losses go, this was not a bad one! The best performances of the day go to Chris Martin & Stephen Elvidge our only winners! Many congratulations to you both, your award is in the post! Anyway onwards and upwards; the next match is on Friday, 6 April at home against our good friends from Gog Magog.
