Hello and welcome to this weeks newsletter
Captain's Charity Pro Am
Last Friday saw the Captain's Charity Pro Am staged at the club and I'm sure everyone involved had a great day. The greens were as slick as they've been all year and the course was presented in fantastic condition.
The course proved to be a good test of golf for the regions best Pro's with 69 winning the individual event shot by George Howard and Ryan Newman.
The team event was a close run thing but eventually won by Damian Alltree and his guest, Tom Duggan and team Professional Murray White. I don't normally show pictures of people who come fourth but you can see that the prizes were still of a good quality and I couldn't resist getting in this one of "Itchy". Definitely a picture for him to stick on the drinks cabinet door when he's thinking of having an extra one, hopefully his holiday to operation stack the following day wasn't too traumatic.
My favourite picture though is of Andy and Kieran who both look equally disappointed at having their photo taken. To be fair to Andy he wasn't the first name out of the hat for the membership prize, Mark Reeve was drawn out but Mark being the kind of person he is admitted to his ball just rolling off the green so it went to a redraw which Andy won.
From the Pro shop, Aaron and I both finished mid table. Playing the course back to front I bored it to tears for 16 holes only to finish bogey bogey for a 75.
I had a very nice round and enjoyed the company of my playing partners, Pat, Geoff and Jim. Aaron being the good employee he is managed to finish one worse after a card wrecker on the 14th. Next week we are away in Cheshire at Carden Park for the finals of the Professional 4 Ball Better Ball Championships so hopefully we will score better there.
A big thank you to Simon Hawkins for the briliant photos.
PGA Midlands Woodhall Spa Pro Am
This past Monday Chris Porter, Gary Bonner and Mick Dowling teamed up With Aaron in the PGA Midlands Woodhall Spa pro am. The course was presented in magnificent condition and they all had a great day out. In the end the toughness of the bunkers and the gorse got the better of their team score. In particular Chris mastered the "suspended ball in gorse shot" shown above. Aaron managed to secure 5th place in the pro prizes but they all left wanting to return and do even better next time.
