Greetings from Rob McNicholas | Saffron Walden Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional | Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter.
As you will see form Brandon's report about the Millennium Trophy, last week was a busy week at the club. The senior section run the competition very well and it's nice to see some faces down early playing with them who wouldn't normally be there in the dark. Having a competition that lasts three rounds will always find a deserving champion. Someone who plays consistently all week and this year was no exception.
Talking of playing well consistently, a big congratulations to Mark Reeve. Mark has won the Mid Amateur order of merit after winning the finals day at Hollinwell golf club in Nottingham. Mark is a credit to himself and always represents the club well wherever he plays. His dedication, commitment and quality of golf have been second to none this year and his achievements at club, county and nationally are nothing less than he deserves.
His notable finishes include wins at Old Fold Manor, Royal St Georges, Finals Day at Hollinwell and second place in the Welsh Mid-Am.

Senior's Millennium Week 5th - 9th October
As always three individual competitions were held over the week with scores from each being accumulated to declare the overall winner and Millennium Champion. The weather was varied starting with very damp but mild conditions and finishing with a glorious autumn day on the Friday. The course was in an excellent condition and enjoyed by close to 80 players for each competition.
Detailed results are posted on the clubs notice board, however the overall winners were :-
Monday 5th - Johnny Johnson Decanter - Mike Hannant Wednesday 7th - Mashie Trophy - Chris Yates Friday 9th - Peter Hoare Trophy - Ian Hassall Millennium Trophy - Graham Jones
(The Millennium Trophy has been donated by David Moss. Graham also received a very nice shirt kindly donated by Rob McNicholas)
Also announced were the following winners :-
Summer KO - Graham Jones Golfer of the Year - Chris Knight Player of the Year - Colin Murrant
(Player of the Year is elected by the Senior Captain and is someone who has significantly contributed to the senior's section over the year)
The week's activities were concluded by a splendid lunch provided by Debbie and her team and the Senior's AGM where John Stewart handed over the Senior's captaincy to Brandon Chapman.
Congratulations to Alexandra Sparrow (who turns 10 this week) for her 1st win in Cambs And Hunts County Girls Development Event.
The event was played at Lakeside Lodge Golf Club The Manor Course, and her 53 Gross for this 9 hole event won her 1st place.
Alex has been a member for one year and is currently having lessons with Aaron on Saturday mornings. He is delighted with her progress. Keep an eye out for her on our course.

Sarah has had another buys week out and about. Here is her latest update:
After round one at Stoke By Nayland I was lying in 62nd place. With few 3 putts out there with tricky to read greens & managed to hit a telephone wire on the 16th, I finished with a 79, +7.
Round 2, I finished with the same score. I felt as though I played better but the greens were still tough and there were no birdies, even though I had lots of attempts!
I didn't make the cut but finished in 74th place out of 96, which has beaten the last two years I've played so I'm happy! Thank you to everyone for supporting me, especially those who came and watched!
My next event is Thetford Pro Am on the 22nd October with Callum Brookes.

Two common faults I often see with a driver set up when teaching are; weight too left sided , and open shoulder alignment. These are both caused by the alteration with the ball position for the driver. As it's moved left in the stance for a right handed player, the weight tends to go with it, and the shoulders open at the same time.Read more...
