On Monday, 16 November our Captains Kieran and Helen in conjunction with the Walden Charity Trophy presented a cheque to Fledglings, our nominated Charity for our year. £27,000 was given to the founder of Fledglings, Ruth Lingard. Several of the Charity's helpers were there and a loud gasp of surprise went up when this large sum of money was disclosed, including one lady who just burst into tears.
Also a cheque is being sent to Fen House, for iPads, this is the recuperation centre where Terry Wilby went after his long stay in hospital and specializes in re-training the brain. IPad are used extensively and Terry had to "book a slot" as they were in very short supply and our money should really help.
Other cheques are being sent to CAB for an overhead projector, OCURRO for a bike in which fits a wheelchair.
As you know the money has been raised in the Club by Charity Days, Lunches, Pro-Am and the wonderful 121 holes played in one day.
A really big THANK YOU from your Captains for your generosity and support of our Charity this year, you are all amazing members.
The second winter series Pro-Am/Am-Am took place on
Thursday, 19 November at Thetford GC.
Played in a 4BBB format in pairs, last month was played under medal conditions, this month was stableford. This event was well supported by Saffron Walden members and was one of Thetford Golf Clubs largest and strongest fields to date.
Aaron played alongside
Peter Flowers, finishing on 39 points in the Pro-Am section.
Callum Brookes and
Olly Tuck played in the same group and finished on 38 points in the Am-Am event.
Both pairings spurred each other on but narrowly missed out on the prizes by countback. Considering the heavy rain endured and the strong opposition, both teams did very well.
Aaron finished on level par with 4 birdies to tie fourth place in the Pro event. He was quite happy with the result considering the field and the tough conditions.
