Below are some quotes from local Professional's about our wonderful course:
"I found Saffron Walden very picturesque, well designed and in excellent condition. The 5th hole really stuck in my mind. A fabulous par-3 from a tee high on the hill that gives you a great view across to Audley End House. Not a long layout, but the greens are such that if they tuck the pins away, it can be very challenging indeed. I really enjoyed it."

"It's a thinkers course, you can't just grab your driver and bash away because there are some holes there that'll eat you up. My favourite is the par-4 13th which calls for a draw off the tee to leave you a mid iron into a green that has a ridge across and is harder than it looks. The hole wouldn't look out of place on some of the best layouts in the world."

"Saffron Walden is what I would call a proper members' club, it's very well kept and it looks in lovely condition from the moment you turn into the car park. I enjoyed the round very much and thought it was a very fair test. The 17th was the toughest hole, but I liked the 13th as well. A few tees forced you to take less club to position your ball on the fairway, but I think that is a huge plus in the design. It's a place that makes you think on every shot."

"Mature parkland, it's superb. The par-5 3rd is a good hole up the hill and the 17th is strong too, but I like the par-5 that runs along the bottom to end the front nine. The perimeter of the course stretches down to the right-hand side and the tee shot is all important, calling for a draw into a sloping fairway. You must hit the fairway here to give yourself a chance of going for the green."

"Some people don't like to finish with a short hole, but I think the 18th at Saffron Walden is a very strong hole. In fact, all the par-3s there are good. The 5th is the signature hole with a great view, I like the pot bunker on the 7th and the 11th has a very narrow green. It's an extremely pleasant place to play golf."

"Saffron Walden is one of the most respected clubs in the region. It was, along with Gog Magog and Links Newmarket, one of the 'originals'."

Two common faults I often see with a driver set up when teaching are; weight too left sided , and open shoulder alignment. These are both caused by the alteration with the ball position for the driver. As it's moved left in the stance for a right handed player, the weight tends to go with it, and the shoulders open at the same time. Read more.......
