Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter,
It's been another busy week at the club with much happening on the course. It started last week with the Captain/Pro challenge. We won't dwell on this one too much, we couldn't even get the tee time right starting in the wind and rain, but it's safe to say in difficult conditions we didn't dovetail well, and with 5 three putts in the last 10 holes we faded quite badly. What was more remarkable is we came nowhere near last, so god knows what went on out there with some of you.
Needless to say I have put up the first prize for the winners Malcolm Thorne and Colin Day who shot a great total and won on countback with 43 points. We promise we will improve for the next one later in the season, things can only get better.
The tricky conditions continued on Sunday with the stableford which was won with 34 points by Andy White.
This Saturday see's our April Medal and Lombard Qualifier take place, so fingers crossed for some more great weather over the weekend.

Woodhall trip
On Thursday we took the Junior squad to Woodhall spa. Although an expensive day out for fish & chips on the way home, the facilities and the course were in great condition. The short game area was presented in tournament spec condition and weather stayed sunny for us all day.
We played in the afternoon and after loosing some of the juniors in the 12 foot deep bunkers, their short game coaching in the morning came in handy!
When we played the course after lunch the squad played in team pairings in a 4BBB format and finished with some great scores under par!

Juniors Spring Into Trophies The start of the prestigious Junior Easter Trophy competitions at Saffron Walden Golf Club was delayed by squally rain and strong gusts of wind which continued to affect scoring opportunities throughout the round. As conditions improved so did the golf of
Louis Martin (15), the winner of both the gross and nett trophies, both on count back.
Shooting a gross 80, Martin won the gross trophy on count back from
Callum Brooks. Brookes, 4 over par after 13 holes, saw his chances of a win disappear as he bogeyed 3 of the last 4 holes, while Martin, after birdies on the 9th and 12th holes, regained confidence to shoot 1 over par on the back 9. Louis's strong finish led to a nett 75, equal to
Jonathon Jenkins, who came second on count back. All the players had found the conditions difficult, and the greens testing.
A 9 hole competition was run alongside the major trophies to encourage higher handicapped juniors. This was won by the only girl in the field,
Hettie Carter (13) with a very commendable gross 47.
