Season set up with 6-0 victory for scratch team
SWGC scratch team set up an eagerly anticipated scratch season, with a 6-0 victory over St Ives at the Windmill Hill Club last Wednesday night.
In a developmental team selection the Walden boys delivered. Up first Ian Macdonald and Spencer Burlingham played Thorborn and Rose and won 2up. Burlingham's length proved decisive, complementing Macdonald's short game.
In the second pairing the Walden youngsters took to the course, with Captain Graham Goodman and Louis Martin taking on past St Ives captain Metson and Dutton. They slotted home two birdies and went through 14 holes in 2 over par and ran out winners 6 and 4.
In the final pairing Callum Brookes and Richard Southall took on Taylor and Pritchard and delivered 4 birdies and ran out winners 5 and 4.
Sarah Passes with Flying Colours
This week, Sarah had confirmation that she is now a fully qualified PGA Pro, so a massive congratulations from all of us here at Saffron Walden.
Here is what Sarah had to say:
"After 3 years hard work, I have finished my PGA degree in September 2015 and I'm now a fully qualified golf professional. I even have the papers to prove it now!
A big thank you to my mum and Rob for organising a small surprise party at the Golf Club for me Monday night. When I turned up back from a school on Monday afternoon thinking I had a meeting in the clubhouse, then walking in and seeing my family, colleagues & members, I was very shocked but thank you all for coming.
For the future I'd like to make a great coach & play more too. I'm planning to compete in a few more of the Ladies Access Tour Series this year as well as the normal WPGA events.
With the playing side this year I have taken a big leap and entered the Ladies British Open Qualifier which is on July 11th at The Berkshire, Surrey - any support is more than appreciated!"
Ladies Biomechanics
The ladies biomechanics sessions are going really well, all ladies are invited to take part in modules to improve their golf swing through the fitness side of the sport. We have just released a new Module 3 which is about the core strength, this will lead to more distance, power and accuracy whilst improving posture and avoiding injuries.
The Pilates classes which are running twice a month now, are becoming more popular & the sign-up sheet is in the changing rooms for those who wish to join.
All the classes are open to any lady member, with any ability of fitness & any age!
