Scratch team put up a fight in Goddard Cup Semi final 

After convincingly winning a hat-trick of CAGU Division 1 titles, the scratch team lost 4.5 to 7.5 away at Newmarket in the semi-final of the Goddard Cup last Sunday. 

An understrength team put up a fight in what was always going to be a tough away fixture. In the morning foursomes Mark Reeve and Olly Tuck won 5up so Walden went in 3-1 down. 

In the afternoon singles Mark Reeve halved with Toby Crisp, a previous CAGU county Champion. Fighting victories followed for Olly Tuck 5 and 3, Captain Graham Goodman won 6 and 4 and Ross Fraser won 2up.

Congrats Callum

Congratulations to Callum for reaching the Wheeler Salver final at Gogs. Callum over came defending champion James Reeson in the semi final and now awaits the winner of Ed Dimambro and Richard Temple. 

Callum had to be at his very best to beat Reeson after going down early on, he hit a purple patch in the middle of the front 9 and had 5 birdies. He held onto the lead on the back 9 to clinch a well earned 2 and 1 victory. When the final date is confirmed we will let you know, as I'm sure he will appreciate the support and become the first winner from Saffron Walden for more than 40 years.
