Competition news

Turkey Trot

Well done to all those who played in the Turkey Trot last week, it's always one of the best supported days in the festive period and as you can tell from the pictures everyone seemed to have a good time! The winners were the same as last year, the Ackermans and the Waites who are becoming somewhat of specialists in this area.

Well done to everyone who won on the Christmas draw, especially Gary Bonner who somehow managed to be first out of the hat, Marcia is still wondering what all the controversy is about but the counselling should help her.

Swing Analysis - Mike Yiannakou

Mike didn't have an official handicap but always to played to the mid teens. We set Mike his own specific target to improve his handicap by 3 shots and on average hit 10 out of 14 fairways at Saffron Walden.

With his bad shot being a pull or slice, he would lose a lot of consistency off the tee and would rely on the iron shots to hit greens.

Click here to see the improvements we have made.

Looking at the picture below, I have paused the video on his half way back move where as a coach I can see his July video (left side) the club was outside his feet line. This means as the club is taken away, if the swing path remains the same, on the way back down to hit the ball, the club line will remain pointing outside his feet line.

This will usually cause a steeper angle of attack (big divots) and the swing path becoming more out to in. Depending if the clubface is open or closed at impact the shot shape will lead to a pull (straight left shot) or slice (left to right shot).

During the next few lessons we worked on correcting the half way back move to improve his swing path leading to (hopefully) a lot straighter shots. As you can see in the right hand side picture the club is running parallel to the toe line which means he is in a good position to hinge, turn to the top and create a good swing path on the way back down.

Mike is in the position now to gain the control of straighter shots with his improved swing path. He has now joined Saffron Walden and is submitting his handicap cards in at the moment to achieve his target.

If you are struggling with any part of your game, and would like to head into the 2017 season full of confidence, click here to get in touch, or come and have a chat with a member of the pro shop team.

Club News
Lots of people have asked which swing model they are and how do they know which one will suit them. Here is a straight forward test to see which model will suit your overall flexibility, strength and physical condition.Read more...

Club News
Two common faults I often see with a driver set up when teaching are; weight too left sided , and open shoulder alignment. These are both caused by the alteration with the ball position for the driver. As it's moved left in the stance for a right handed player, the weight tends to go with it, and the shoulders open at the same time.Read more...
