Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter,
Dorris Delays Play
I was hoping to send it a day later this week with news of my teams marvelous performance in the Pro Am but Dorris had other ideas this week and it was cancelled, never the less myself, Ron Rushforth, Mike Price and Paul Wisbey met on Thursday morning and took on the breeze and survived, all with the same golf ball which we started with.
We thought we would be the only ones out on the course but as we strode up the first at 9.45am we could see Michelle Brown, Sonja Penney and Jo Kerchiss already playing the 10th. They must have set their alarms especially for Dorris, not wanting to miss out. Thankfully the course too survived but we did lose a bit of the roof between the pro shop and clubhouse which Ian and his team managed to stop before it reached the allotments.
Slade Meeting
Back to the golf this past week and you will see there was a Slade meeting, unfortunately I was away but I hear it was a keenly fought contest with Mike Price and Keith Wardley pipping a couple of groups to the right to buy drinks and Terry Wilby and Paul Wisbey proving victorious at the other end of the field with victory in the PPPP.
Walden Ready for the Season
Saffron Walden Golf club scratch team start their build up for the 2017 season with a friendly versus the Cambridgeshire county side this Sunday at the Windmill Hill club. An exciting year beckons for the Walden boys. Graham Goodman enters his 7th successful season as Captain and Mark Reeve begins his tenure as County captain for 2 years.
The scratch team have been busy over the winter with a full program of competitive Scratch salver competitions which have seen the players handicaps reduced and Callum Brookes shooting the lowest ever recorded competitive round of 63.
An excited Captain Goodman said "We go into the season with high optimism after a winter of competitive golf. Last year we won the scratch league for an impressive 3 years in a row and we are determined to keep the success going. Main objective is to deliver in the Goddard Cup after losing in the semi's last year. We have an impressive youth representation coming through this year which hopefully will join Callum in the first team"
Walden are fired up with friendlies also against Royston, Gog Magog, Bury St Edmonds and St Ives before the season starts.

Aiming for a younger demographic The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.

Two common faults I often see with a driver set up when teaching are; weight too left sided , and open shoulder alignment. These are both caused by the alteration with the ball position for the driver. As it's moved left in the stance for a right handed player, the weight tends to go with it, and the shoulders open at the same time.Read more...
