Good Start to the Year
Not content with beating Brampton Park three games to nil in the St. Ives Cup, a team of three to the CAGU Club Championship at Bar Hill and they won it!
They have qualified for the national final at Woodhall Spa in August. Fantastic result.
Jonny and Charlie - won 5 and 4
Jacob and Josh - won 7 and 6
Match 3 was conceded as Brampton could only field four lads.
Jacob and Jamie both played to 5, scoring 38 points each. Josh had picked up a shoulder injury at home in the morning but insisted on playing with a curtailed swing, and managed to score 22 points. With the first two scores to count they had done enough.
Swing Analysis
As mentioned in last week's newsletter Sarah played well in Manchester but had to battle with a shot going left with her longer clubs. The issue was posture.
If you look at the two set ups below there is a subtle difference between them. The posture on the left was the problem one, she's basically stood too tall meaning no resistance on the way back and the club over rotates.

Even though the posture is better in the image on the right it still needs more tilt from the hips to work more pressure downwards rather than taking the pressure off the ground as in the other set up.
Once Sarah changed the set up her long game was back to its more reliable self but it just goes to show how important a tiny alteration is in the set up and what a big impact it can have on the ball flight. Hopefully Sarah can put it to good use today as her and Helen Porter aim to win a trip to Portugal in the ladies Lombard qualifier in Manchester.
Seniors Match v The Ladies
The temperature rose but the seniors kept their cool in the match against the Ladies on Thursday, 25 May. Again, this year it was very much enjoyed by all that participated and is a popular fixture. First off representing the Ladies were Captain, Melissa Jones, partnered by the Vice-Captain, Justine Voss, playing against Brandon Chapman and Nick Rouse (seniors match captain). Melissa and Justine provided a tough challenge for the men shooting a better ball score of 37 on the first nine and the men were both pleased to be only one down on the turn. The second nine continued with quality golf with an all square result at the 18th. All matches were played in a good spirit with a competitive edge with the seniors winning 6-2.
Seniors Match v John O Gaunt
On Wednesday, 31 May the seniors played their return match at home having lost away 6 v 2. We were accompanied on the course (via a tractor) by our club chairman Brandon Chapman. Hope you are enjoying your new work Brandon! There were some excellent results and perhaps two highlights were Eric Grants nearest the pin on the 18th within 18inches of the hole whilst NTP for the away team was the 11th only for their winner to lose out on the hole as Alan Seymour putted for his birdie! So a very enjoyable day followed by an excellent meal after a great win 5 and half to 2 and half.
