Captains Away Day
Last Friday I joined a group of 35 on the Captains Away Day at Kings Lynn. The course as many of you will know is very tight and always well presented. Last week was no exception. The scoring reflected the tight layout and the weather, which at one point brought the course to a standstill as the greens flooded. Mike Price and Robert Register propped up the field with a meagre 28 points, 27 of which were achieved by Robert. I partnered Keith Wardley who after his third tee shot told me he wasn't really feeling it or in the mood, which left me going solo for the majority of the round. Having said that he did get our only 3 pointer to go with my many exciting pars to put us into mid table obscurity on 33 points. Our playing partners fared much better as Sean Manchip and Kieran O'Reilly dovetailed well to a 39 points total and a place on the podium. They though were a good distance behind the first two. Enjoying their days off, hopefully booked in as annual leave, having driven up on their trial works van after their complimentary club breakfast, Ian Cambridge and Scott Parnell partnered Clive Walker, who had a lesson the day before, and Ian Hudson. Ian and Scott were the first to arrive in with a great score of 43 points, blowing the field away. This held the lead until one of the last groups to come in, Ian Cambridge and Clive Walker snatched victory with 44 points. A good day was had by all, for those who haven't played Kings Lynn it is definitely worth a visit, thanks to Gary for the invite and the organisation and I look forward to seeing his return to form tomorrow as we partner one another in our final challenge match.
