Captain/Pro Challenge Last Saturday amongst the ongoing course development, Captain Gary and myself took on the rest of the club in the final Captain Pro Challenge of the year. As we teed off at midday we got to hear how the early starters had got on and its always nice to 46 points posted as a target. The first few holes were interesting on the recovering greens. Gary had announced to me on the first tee that he was struggling with his back and popped pills like packman to ease the pain and allow him to get through the ball. I made the mistake on two and three of sticking my approach shots to within a few feet as I duly missed the putts, unlike our playing partner Pete Warren who looked disgusted with his pitch shot to the second, only to see his ball disappear into the hole from about 70 yards. We dropped a shot on the 5th but I managed to hit the 6th in two and get a shot back, Gary nett birdied the next and I nicked another back on eight which sent us out in 20 points. Gary's herbal highs were kicking in by now and we had a steady run on the back half where I didn't drop a shot and Gary got a couple of 3 pointers including a nice birdie up the 14th. 40 points was our total, good enough to beat our playing partners Jeremy and Pete but not good enough to beat 10 pairs, predominantly the early starters. Thanks the all this who took part and well done to those who beat our total. |
