Slade Wednesday saw the February meeting of the Slade, 16 turned out to play and as ever it was keenly contested. I partnered the treasurer Ian Hudson so was on best behaviour, we had a very steady 40 points, everything was done in 2 points apart from the ninth and tenth where Ian used his shots to great effect with back to back birdies. We missed countless opportunities out there, some down to bad putting and some down to the wet and bobbly greens but we managed to get to mid-table obscurity. Our partners, Eric and Wardy set off like a train with the latter in particularly using his shots very well and at one point on the front 9 they were three points ahead of us. We managed to grind them down though and they got on the one point train which meant their golf balls got some verbal abuse. In the end they got 33 points which put them in danger of the PPPP. This though was won out right by Derek and Raffa. It was Derek's first game for a while and Raf hasn't played a great deal either, unfortunately this showed, I can't reuse the words Graham Smith used to described their golf, but it’s fair to say it wasn't very flattering. I'm also too polite to tell you how many points they did or didn't amass but it was one less than the age of Sarah when she started working here, and she's not that old now.
