Stableford Competition
It’s been another busy week on the course, kick started on Monday by the Seniors team Stableford competition that I became an honour last minute stand in senior. I had the pleasure of John Stewart and Tony Gome’s company for the round to which we played the first 12 holes, where one and two of our scores were needed, very well. We never really got out of first gear but reached this point in -5.
What happened next was we went from first gear to reverse, falling from -5 to +10! All, me included suddenly had the wheels fall off. The only good thing was that I managed to win a bottle of wine for nearest the pin, much to Eric Grant’s delight as I managed to edge him out of contention.
The winners at level par were, and I had to be reminded which was an experience in itself gathering the information from the seniors 4 days after the event, as Malcolm normally does this report but apparently he's still in shock from missing a putt at Girton on Wednesday, David Wiseman, Tony Collett and Roger Cowen. Thanks to everyone who played and thanks for the late invite. |
Team Stableford
Nearest the Pin Leading the field from the beginning was Eric Grant. Unfortunately, to be beaten by Rob McNicholas (The Club Professional) playing in the last Group.
|
Team Results Closely contested competition which required a Countback on the results to determine the final winners. In second place with 72 points - Geoff Mansfield, Derek Green and Chris Martin
|
Winners also with 72 points - David Wiseman, Roger Cowen and Tony Collett

CAGU vs Nottinghamshire Seniors
Steve Plumb and Graham Goodman, two members of the Club represented the County yesterday at Bourn Golf Club. CAGU won the morning foursomes 4-2, with Nottinghamshire taking the afternoon fourballs 8-4. The overall score for the day was 10-8 to Nottinghamshire. |
Steve Plumb and Graham Goodman lost 1 down in the foursomes but made up for it in the afternoon fourball. Graham slotted home three birdies and Steve made two to win their game 4&3. |
St. Clare's Hospice Charity Day
On Thursday we hosted the annual St. Clare's Hospice Charity Day run by the Epping Rotary Club. As many of you know and may have played in this, it’s one of the busiest days of the year and is always well run by John Burgess and the team from the Rotary Club.
This year’s beat the Pro challenge was handed down from Aaron to Fabian who quickly got into being mean spirited and tried his hardest not to let anyone beat him. Don't know if he was quite as mean spirited as Aaron one year where he only gave away three sleeves of balls but I think he made a pretty good job of it. The day was another good one for the Hospice and at the first count they have looked to have raised in excess of £13000. |
