Welcome to this week’s newsletter. Yet again Aaron and I find ourselves alone as Ben and Sarah are out of the country, allegedly on golfing trips, more likely holiday or for tax purposes. I've seen a few bits from Ben and had a few pictures sent from Sarah, most of which appear to be in the 19th. The weather looks just as good as we've got it, which is not often you get to say that, though I'd imagine its a few degrees warmer. |
With the week we have had we should start to see signs of recovery out there on the course as the temperatures increase, those who have played this week will have seen the greens are rolling much quicker and there is a bit more definition round the green and on the fairways.
Enjoy the weather and have a good golfing weekend.

Saffron Walden Golf Club 2019 Junior Programme
The new Junior Programme initiative is to guide more juniors through the levels of golf, improve their swing and knowledge of the sport enough to get them onto the golf course, joining junior membership and representing our golf club.
We are proud to have over 50 juniors playing in many competitions, representing our club in matches and joining in with coaching, working their way into the main squad team, backed up by the development squad team. Our new programme, when into the main season, will start to divide the class into different levels. This gives each junior a chance to work their way through the levels in no time period, to reach the chance to introduce them to the golf course itself. Each level is coached by Sarah Smith, PGA Professional and gives each junior a chance to learn about their swing and improve their game as well as learning about the rules and etiquette. At the end of each level, awards and certificates will be achieved.

Tactics, tactics, tactics

There will always come a time when, as a golfer, you need to really attack the pin to give yourself a chance of making a certain score on a hole. However, whether or not you choose to depends as much on the positioning of the flag than anything else. |
| Scenario #1 | Take the above illustration, for example; with the flag cut so close to both the bunker and the edge the green which slopes away from you, you would be better off taking any danger out of play by aiming for the middle of the green. This will help you avoid trouble and any dropped shots, even if you miscue slightly. |
| Scenario #2 | However, if the flag is in a more central position – as shown in the second illustration above – then you can be a lot more aggressive with your shot. Take aim straight at the pin and commit to your shot. Hopefully, you’ll be reaping the rewards when you step onto the green for a great chance of making a two-putt par. |
