Jock Stewart Competition 2019 After many years of being drawn away from home in the Jock Stewart competition, we were treated to a home draw in this year’s first round match against Lakeside Lodge. Following some excellent coaching sessions from both Rob and Sarah our team were well prepared and ready for action. Our lead pairing in the 6-10 handicap bracket were Tim and Chris Davey. They were quick out of the blocks to go four up after 8. A blip in the middle of the round left them 2 up after 12 before they steadied the ship to shake hands on the 16th green as 3 and 2 winners. In the 11-14 category the new pairing of Simon Hawkins and Chris Reynolds followed a similar pattern to be 4 up after 5 followed by a couple of lost holes around the turn. A strong finish meant the game finished on the 15th green with 4 and 3 win. Last out were Nick Selves and Phil Collins playing their first competitive match. Playing in the 15+ Handicap group, both played well against experienced opponents. Some excellent pitching and putting from both players ensured they always had the lead. Nick’s final pitch from 60 yards to within a foot on the 15th hole was enough to secure a 4 and 3 win and a 3-0 overall victory for the team. The game was played competitively but in excellent spirit between the teams. The next round will be played away at either Heydon Grange or Barkway Park.
