Welcome to this weeks newsletter. As you are all aware it has been a very wet week this week and although that is not good for getting out and playing golf it's good for the course and it was well needed. The course is currently looking immaculate and green and hopefully, if the rain holds off for the weekend it will be the perfect time for a round.
Today we held a Scotty Cameron and Vokey Wedge Fitting Day so thank you to Titleist for running it and everyone that attended. If you made a purchase hopefully you will be a short game wizard in no time! |

Don't worry if you missed out on this fitting day as we have Yonex coming to do one next month, so keep an eye out in the newsletter for the date. |
Aaron Howard - Essendon Pro-Am Last Friday I took Alan Dickinson, John Izod and Peter Flowers to play alongside me in the Essendon Pro-Am. Unhappily, the weather was heavy rain and wind all day.
In the individual event, I managed to shoot 1 over par to record a top ten finish and receive a cheque. Although the horrendous weather was not conducive to good scoring, we managed to shoot 12 under as a team and were quite happy at the result. We were only 2 shots away from the team prize table. Essendon is a great course to hold a Pro-Am.

Friday’s free swing advice |
Getting Out Of Trouble This is probably one of the most important shots to master at any level, especially for high handicappers. When you hit your tee shot offline, and find yourself in trouble, the next decision you make is very important. I can’t tell you how many times I've had people say they have a big score on a hole because of a shot in the trees!
A lot of people think they can go for the low percentage shot, look for the flag and hit it through the smallest gap in the trees - this usually results in hitting another branch & getting in even more trouble. Sometimes, although a difficult decision, you have to think sensible... So how do you get out from under the trees?
Answer: Punch Shot!
- Club selection is important, to keep the ball low, pick something with less loft, I'd often take a 6 iron. - Set up with the ball near your back foot & bring your hands down the grip for more control. - Weight onto the front side, this is to be kept there all throughout the shot. - Swing-wise, think of a chip rather than full shot. - With the less lofted club & de-lofting it more at setup, the shot will run out more. - When following through try to feel like the clubhead stays low to the ground.

Earn Yourself Some Money It's always nice to get something for our old bits and bobs. Take your car for example, with many people now taking the opportunity to get money off a new car by part-exchanging their old car as part of the deal. Well, we're now running a brilliant offer with our friends at Motocaddy, which will see you get up to £60 back in cash (minimum return is £50) when you trade-in your old electric trolley whilst purchasing a new Motocaddy electric trolley in-store. |

If you’re an equipment junkie, there’s nothing quite like standing on the first tee clutching the latest driver – especially, with the marketing promise of faster ball speeds and greater distance firmly in your mind. The question is, should this be your number one priority with the big stick in hand? |
With the US Open taking place at Pebble Beach this week, one thing the world’s best will need in abundance is accuracy off the tee. Penal rough, fairway bunkers aplenty and the Pacific Ocean combine to create one of the hardest tests in golf. |
Introducing TaylorMade's M5/M6 drivers Two drivers that will be in lots of golfers' bags this week are these beauties from TaylorMade. As well as the impressive ball speeds and distance gains from its Speed Injection, there are two features on the M5 that will help tighten up your dispersion. First, Twist Face helps reduce any 'gear effect' that comes as a result of an off-centre strike. Combine this with the moveable weights in the M5's T-Track and we can set up your driver to fight any regular misses you might have. So, what are you waiting for? Come and have a chat to us in the shop and we can start you on your journey to better golf this summer. |
