Welcome to this weeks newsletter, it's great to see the weather improving and hopefully, this is the end of the wet spell so we can get out on the course and leave the brollies at home. This week I played in the Marston's Brewery golf day to some success, winning 160 pints of beer due to winning the longest drive and getting an eagle on their Eagle IPA hole, hope you are all thirsty!
Today I am playing in the Slade against the Three Club Farmers so keep an eye out on the report next week. Don't forget that our Club Championships are coming up soon so if you wish to play make sure you get yourself entered. |
SW V Newmarket Division 1 Match Report
On Saturday 15th June our division 1 junior team took on Newmarket for their St Neots Cup Division 1 match. Newmarket has a strong team of Suffolk County players, however, this didn’t put our team off. Everyone played well, well done to James Hamilton and Will Mckernan who managed to secure wins.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough and although the remaining 4 matches were all very close Newmarket managed to take the victory with 3 1/2 matches to 2 1/2.

Improving Your Putting! Here are my top 3 tips for improving your putting, there simple bits of advice you can try at home or when your practising on the putting green - once you've built your confidence, take them to the course...
1 - Practice Success 10-foot putts are the ones to hole. When you’re knocking it into greens from this distance on the course, try to give yourself more birdie chances by practising the putts that are going to lead to success. Put a tee peg out at 10 foot and using 3 balls, build confidence on your tempo and momentum to hole at least 2 out of 3 from this distance.
|
2 - One Hand When practising, try to putt with 1 hand, if you can hole putts one-handed, as soon as you place your weaker hand on you will naturally be in the correct setup position and get a good feel for putts. It will also help work on the pendulum of your stroke. |
3 - Routine! Stick to your routine for every putt, no matter how short or long it is. Life's all about routine, you wouldn't change the way you made a cuppa tea from day to day (put the milk in first or last!) so why change the way you take different length putts, they’re all as important as each other! Putting routines can be as simple as, looking behind, lining the ball up, 2 practice swings, place the putter behind the ball, feet down and off you go. It will take you 30 seconds max but if you stick to this for every single putt, even for the tap in's, I guarantee your putting will improve!

How good does it feel when you strike the ball right out of the sweet spot? Pretty special, right? As much as we'd all love to, striking the centre of the clubface on every shot isn't realistic, which is why opting for some irons with added MOI could make all the difference. |
What is MOI? An iron’s actual sweet spot is no bigger than a pinhead, with anything struck outside resulting in the clubhead beginning to twist at impact – this is what is commonly referred to as MOI. The higher a club's MOI, the more stable it is through impact and therefore more resistant to twisting. So... Higher MOI = More forgiving |
The secret to better strikes So, here's the secret to getting that special feeling more often with your irons: - Coaching – Yep, let’s take some time to assess your swing to ensure you're giving yourself the best chance of success
- Try out Mizuno's JPX919 irons – All three models in the range (Hot Metal, Forged and Tour) boast a unique stability frame to enhance MOI across the face; plus, the Swing DNA will fit you into the perfect model for your game in just three swings
Let’s start getting a little extra forgiveness back in your game with a fun-filled custom fitting session with your local PGA professional – that’s us!
