Centenary Week
As you may know, it has been Centenary Week at the club and I must say what a great week it's been. Everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves and these photos from the Centenary Ball speak for themselves! |
We also had the Sporting Dinner which was another great night during the week hosted by Steve Ryder. |
A huge thank you to Simon Hawkins for taking these fantastic photographs. |

Sarah Smith - Ladies British Open Qualifier
Monday this week, as you may know already, I played in the Ladies British Open Qualifier (on my birthday!) at Sandy Lodge Golf Club. Unfortunately, I didn’t qualify, missing out by 6 shots but I was very pleased with the way I played and have lots of positives to take away.
|
The course was in superb condition, with quick greens and tough bunkers. It was great to have Rob caddying for me and nice for him to see me play in person rather than always hearing about the up’s and down’s after!
I had an up and down front half with a bit of bad luck after two bad bounces on a par 5, but with a steady back half I finished 8 over. My highlight of the round was hitting the pin in one with my 4 iron on a 170-yard par 3 (unfortunately/luckily it didn’t go in!) |
|
Thank you for all the kind messages I had through social media and at work. It means a lot to me how much support I’ve had from everyone.
I’m now looking forward to my next event which is a one-day series’s on Friday (writing this on Wednesday) at Chestfield Golf Club, Kent.

Aaron Howard - Pro-Am's On Wednesday I played alongside Jaine Fieldhouse, Angela Reed and Vivienne Dondi. The course had very narrow approaches and the rough cut into a lot of fairways reducing any natural run out advantage we would have had for our team. The course was presented in great condition and now under new management promises further improvements for next year’s event.
With great company and “par/birdie hugs” the team helped me individually to three birdies, a one-over 71 score and a top ten finish. Our team scored four-under overall with a highlight of a birdie and a nett 1 on the same par three hole. |
|
I teamed up with Gary Bonner, Peter Warren and Jeremy White for the Verulam Pro-Am. The course played quite short but the greens were very difficult to read and frustratingly none of our team managed to convert many chances.
Even though it is the home of the Ryder Cup the course is still playing on preferred lies and it gave a real positive nod to Saffron Walden’s fairway conditions. We did end the day under par for our team and had an enjoyable event. |
|
Kings Lynn was presented immaculately and my team of Olly Tuck, Spencer Burlingham and Paul Swatton had high hopes at the start. I managed to birdie the 9th and was in good position playing the last 9. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep the momentum going around the tree-lined closing holes but did manage to birdie the last to shoot 5 over and help our team get to 4 under. In great company with such a good team, we simply didn’t perform to our best. The winning score is never low in this event and as it’s such a tough test it is a great warm-up for our own upcoming Club Championship.

Golf clothing has come a long way from the old-style knickerbockers worn in the early 1900s - you can hardly imagine popping to the supermarket in a pair of those today. Fortunately, these days, golf brands make clothing that is high performing on the course but looks good enough to set the trend off it too. |
| Galvin Green SS19 apparel |
|
Take this polo from Galvin Green, which has really caught our eye this season. The yellow and black design drips a classy yet modern look that is so versatile it is guaranteed to be something of a head turner away from the course as well as on it.
The Monte polo is a worthy addition to any golfing wardrobe, so come on down and take a closer look at Galvin Green's range next time you're at the club.
