Saffron Walden's Annual Presentation Evening
Last Friday saw the annual presentation evening at the club. Congratulations to all those who have won throughout the year. I thought the County Vice-President speech hit the nail on the head about presentation evenings and how they are about celebrating your achievements on the course and all the hard work you put into your game throughout the year. On that note I also thought it was good that the county a representative came to the club to acknowledge what the scratch and the junior team had achieved this year.
Here in the Pro Shop, we are hugely excited about the launch of the brand new TaylorMade RSi range of irons that is due to be released this weekend. Previous TaylorMade irons were driven by all out distance, this new RSi 1 design however, delivers better performance on mishits, so even your bad shots give you a chance of making par. Features and benefits of the TaylorMade RSi 1 irons include:
- Two horizontal slots at either end of the grooves help the face flex more consistently at impact for more consistent distance on off-centre hits
- Improvements to the Speed Pocket mean shots struck low off the face launch higher and carry further
- A thinner face with a deep undercut and Inverted Cone Technology promotes faster ball speeds for more distance
- Multiple dampening systems improve both sound and feel
- True Temper Reax 90 steel shafts optimise ball flight

Mizuno Fitting Day
Next Wednesday, 13 November we are holding a Mizuno fitting day here at Saffron Walden from 11am until 3pm. I have only got a few slots left, so please click here to request your slot asap. These will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Mizuno hardware is a hugely up and coming brand, and are set to take on the likes of PING and TaylorMade next year. It is astounding the brand retention that Mizuno achieves, with over 90% of their customers moving on to another set of Mizuno irons rather than switching brands.
Book your slot with us and find out why this is the case!!
Through the gate drill
If you are struggling with consistency of strikes then try this drill. Lay 5 balls in a row touching one another. Remove the 2 balls either side of the centre ball leaving a gap big enough to swing a club through to strike the middle ball. Take a few shots striking the middle ball and see what happens. If you are not on the correct path and angle of attack into the ball you will clip one of the outside balls as well as striking the centre ball. This will show you what's happening at impact and the angle the club is coming into the ball from. Too shallow and you will clip the ball nearest to you, to steep and over the top and you will clip the ball furthest away from you. Once you know the angle of approach then you know what to fix.
