A Fond Farewell Well, where do we start with the week that has been? They say a weeks a long time in politics well it certainly seems a long time in the life of the Pro shop. This time last week I was singing the praises of Josh Fagan and how well he had started here, capped off with a superb performance in the Pro-Am the previous week, winning the team event and shooting 70 to come third in the individual event on his PGA debut. Five days later he handed or rather sent a very apologetic text saying due to personal reasons he was unable to open up the following morning, was currently back at his parents in Middlesborough and the chances were he was unlikely to return. It was a surprising and ultimately sad end to his time here, he had made a great start getting to know members, been involved in the club, was good at working within a small team and was easy to get on with. He could have done the job in his sleep and was a natural at it as well as being a good player. I know he still had ambitions to play tour golf, I sincerely hope he gets the chance to follow this through and see where his playing takes him. For the record, I would like to say thanks for the short time you were here and I’m sorry circumstances beyond our control made it end this way. In his text he did say that he had had a fun time, had enjoyed his start here and the club.
A New Beginning As one door closes though another opens. You may have seen Callum helping out over the past few weeks. Over summer we spoke about creating a pathway for him to turn professional in a years’ time, Josh’s departure has suddenly acted as a catalyst for getting this moving. Callum will be taken back on full time as an apprentice with the view to giving him the opportunities to play as much as possible in his final year as an amateur and turn professional next summer. I’m sure you’ll all wish him well on his journey and welcome him back to the team. |
