Get behind it, stay behind it drill
Swinging the driver differs from swinging an iron. With the driver we are looking to collect the ball at the end of the stance and launch it high as opposed to squeezing the ball from the the middle of the stance with an iron. To encourage this to happen we must try and maximise the coil in the back swing so that we can unwind into the ball and deliver maximum club head speed.
Here is an exercise to encourage you and give you the feeling of turning the upper body behind the ball so that you can load up the right side and then unwind and release the energy through it with an upward sweeping motion into the ball.
Pic 1. Place the club in the left hand with the head touching the ground and the right hand in its normal address position.
Pic 2. Make a back swing and turn your back to the target and load up the right side.
Pic 3. Unwind back to the club and accelerate into impact. The head and upper body will stay behind the club so you can sweep up into the ball.
We've all opened presents on Christmas day and been underwhelmed… right?! That ghastly pair of golf socks, nondescript sleeve of golf balls, maybe even a golf club which just wasn't what you were hoping for.
There's no excuse this year because we're happy to offer advice to partners, family and friends so that you get the golfing gifts you really want this Christmas. From stocking fillers like tees and sleeves of balls - equally important to get right by the way - to fitted drivers and irons, all it takes is a quick call or visit to the shop and we'll be only too happy to help make sure you don't end up having to fake a smile on Christmas Day when you unwrap that golf bag you really hate!
So, contact us here, visit us in the shop or forward our details on to someone who may be interested to know what you're after this Christmas…
