A Testing Week Well, it’s been another testing week weather-wise out there, not only with the winds but the snow which descended on us on Thursday. I was supposed to be in a Pro-Am at Woburn, we were on our way there ploughing through the thickening snow when they decided to cancel at 7.15 in the morning. |
We had a nice drive through four counties, got within twenty minutes and then came back. The correct decision was made we just wish it was called the night before looking at the forecast as there was no way we were going to miss the snow. Not that this would have made much difference for Sarah’s team as she planned ahead and got there a day early! |

The new range has certainly been a popular choice this year and if haven't tried then it certainly is worth a try. Don't Overthink Your Swing Sometimes when we correct players swings they can overthink it or the message doesn’t quite get through. Those who have worked with me will probably at some point have done this exercise. The reason Josh is doing this is he’s trying to improve his position at the top of his backswing to make it easier to get back to the ball more consistently and maintain his angles at impact. The top and bottom half of the swing were not quite in tandem on the way back which led to inconsistencies in the ball flight. By getting Josh to swing off his left leg he has to get his balance and control matching to give him his timing. As you can see from attempt one the right leg doesn't quite know what to do and he’s still not in balance. This is probably a reflection of what is happening in his normal swing. Attempt two is much more controlled, the swing is flatter and he stays in balance with the shot. As a result, his timing is much better and he’s able to swing then release the club through impact. The exercise has been around for many a year and is multi-purpose. One it stops players over thinking and over complicating the swing. Two it actually gets them to swing the clubhead and get it to do the work rather than lose control and balance in the swing by over or incorrectly using the bigger muscles. Last week we revealed a remarkable statistic regarding the number of golfers playing grips that are over a year old, but what impact does that actually have on your game? Well, we decided to do some digging... |
| Tension whilst gripping | Grips are made from rubber and are prone to wear and tear, just like the tyres on your car. When they become worn, your grips will lose tackiness and your hands will start to slip during the swing, resulting in poorer shots.
The thing is, you’ll likely overcompensate by holding on to your clubs too tight, creating more tension and stiffness during the swing.
|
| Limited time offer in-store now | We know it sounds all doom and gloom, but it does make a huge difference to your game. That's why we're running this promotion at Saffron Walden Golf Club, so you can experience the benefits of a new grip first hand.
There’s no catch, just pop by the shop before your next round to take advantage. |
