Competition Round Up Last week was a busy week with a competition everyday, or at least it was supposed to be until the back end of storm Alex caused havoc in the later half of the week. On Monday though things were much nicer as the seniors kicked off the week with the Millennium competition. Day one was a tightly fought contest with Gerry Murphy coming out on top with 39 points. Day two and they were really getting into the swing of it and used to the quick greens. Scoring proved slightly better with Geoff Tobin winning With 40 points. This left it all to play for on Friday as Gerry had had a steady day again shooting 33 points to put him tied first with Adrian Richardson on 72 points. Ben Gill was also in contention after getting used to his early starts thanks to Harry, finding himself just 4 points behind with Roger Forster. Friday brought different challenges as the heavens opened and rained pretty much throughout the day. Despite Bens new Arsenal inspired umbrella he couldn’t quite overhaul the leaders but did shoot the joint best score of the day with 35 points. He lost on count back to Andy Peterson who like Geoff Woollerson also had 35 points. If Geoff had managed to win we would have had a Lemons victor everyday. This meant that Gerry and Adrian had to shoot 32 points or better to win. Adrian finished with 28 points on a wet day but Gerry did manage to get over the line with 33 points. Well done to Gerry and all the winners and thanks to everyone for taking part in the week. There were 262 rounds completed over the 3 days which considering the weather on Friday and many like Ron deciding it was too wild to play, I think is a great a achievement and shows the appetite and support for the competition. Well done to John, Eric, Clive and the seniors committee for organising the week. I know it was not the same without the Friday AGM but a good week was had by all anyway. Finally thanks to Clive for a good year. I know like the rest of the captains you’ve had an unprecedented set of circumstances to deal with but I know you’ve thrown your heart and soul into it and leave the section in great shape. Welcome to Eric Grant now who takes over the reigns, we hope you have an enjoyable and successful year. |
