Here we go again
Well, here we go again! I write this after having played this afternoon for the last time this month due to the incoming lockdown restrictions and it was hard to believe that there is a safer place to exercise whether in a group of 2, 3 or 4 than on a golf course. But according to Boris and co this isn’t the case and in fact travelling and pottering round a garden centre is indeed a safer and better way to help bring the R rate down. The message about this lockdown was clearly rushed through, with little logic or consistency and it seems that golf along with tennis has fallen victim to politics. It’s a genuine shame for golf which lends itself well to social distancing and has taken the responsibility as one of the first sports to come out of lockdown very seriously. As a member of the PGA I’ve watched and admired how they, along with all the other golfing bodies from the UK have come together and worked with parliamentary committees to show the importance of the sport in the current climate and made sure first and foremost it’s a safe environment for us to play in. The past 6 months have flown by and its safe to say the course has never been as busy and has probably earned a rest as the sport has seen a real renaissance with many getting back into the game or taking it up for the first time. I’ve been reminded of the different sides of the game and what being part of a club means to so many of you, things we often take for granted such as being able to get out and meet people, the camaraderie and friendships as well as the routine of the weekly games that matters so much to people. Things like this show that golf is not just physically good for you but for your mental well-being too. Hopefully you will all be able to catch up and continue this in one form or another over the next month. Despite feeling that the golfing world has been a bit hard done by I know we will be back soon and there are bigger issues out there. I really hope that the lockdown has the desired effect, brings the R rate down, takes the strain off the NHS and saves lives. Then we can meet up with friends and loved ones in the wider world as well as getting back to the sport we love. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Pro shop team for all their hard work post lockdown part one. They have gone above and beyond what I and the club have asked them to do and despite at times looking a tad on the tired side, have never moaned or groaned but just got on with it. Also thank you to all the members for your support over the season. It’s much appreciated, it really means a lot to me and my team, we will miss you over the next month but we look forward to seeing you soon. As it’s all a bit fresh at the minute we will keep you up to speed with what’s happening with the shop but we anticipate opening in December and will operate a click and collect service in the meantime. I am speaking with Foremost and many suppliers tomorrow to find out exactly what’s happening with backorders and will keep you updated. If any of you need anything ordering or have any queries please call my mobile on 07891473105 In the meantime keep safe and look after one another and we look forward to seeing you next month.
