First of all, as this is the final one of the year, on behalf of all the Pro Shop team we wish you a happy Christmas and all the best for 2021. Things can only get better! To say it’s been a strange year would be an understatement and I’m sure I can’t really add anything else to what has already been saying. I would like to thank all the members past and present for their support this year, we certainly appreciate it and don’t take it for granted.
Considering how bleak everything was looking in March I think we would have taken the golfing season that we have had. A big highlight for me was the club championships and seeing the buzz back about the competition despite the weather and restrictions.
Another was seeing Callum turn professional and picking up his first cheque on his very first outing. We have missed out on a lot though too. It seems odd not having a turkey carvery every other day this time of year! When you look back it’s incredible to think we’ve gone a whole year with no real official functions, social events or team matches.
Bizarrely though all of this, the club seems to be stronger and the members have pulled together, got on with it and found a way to enjoy their golf whatever the restrictions and adjust to this temporary way of doing things.
On a lighter note, something that gives us joy and is a big part of golf club life which helps us get through testing times is the humour and camaraderie. Only this week as parts of Essex were plunged into tier 3 one poor soul, a newish member, was looking for advice and hope that his golfing year hadn’t come to an abrupt. He sent out an email to his new group of friends to see what he could and couldn’t do as he was now in a different tier to the golf club. Within seconds of his email going out a response came back with, “I’ll have your tee time Wednesday then” to be quickly followed by “move house” then “can I have your driver if you’re not using it?” At least people replied.
