I Hope You Are Well!

First of all, I hope everyone is in good health. Another seven days have passed that we can cross off the calendar bringing us closer to golfs return, a bit like an extreme and more painful version of counting down to Christmas but without knowing when Christmas actually is.

As you may have seen the debate in parliament fell on deaf ears as expected and they aren’t going to reopen golf course before the next review of the current lockdown. All eyes and ears will now focus on the review date of 16th February where we will, fingers crossed, get a glimmer of hope to when we might return.
I know many of you are still communicating with one another in your groups and I’ve seen some good stuff coming across and some interesting ways that you keep yourselves.

Me this week, well I’ve mainly been getting together with the methodology of Key stage one maths and Phonics ( what is that about? ). In the evenings I have had a chance to do my work for the club and this week has been committee week.

We have welcomed the new members onto the various committees and it’s interesting to see that from meeting one that not many appear to be doing dry January’s. Imagine what it will be like when we get to annual review on comps and handicaps at the end of the season!

On the serious side there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. As you will see from the photos the bunker renovation is continuing and plans have been put in place for the rest of the year too. On comps and handicaps provisions are being put in place for your return to golf with events being prioritised and a flexible competition diary being created for spring. The new website and software is gradually being built and implemented and should be ready for when we reopen.

As we get closer to coming out of lockdown we will be doing some get back into golf tips, those who follow Sarah on social media will see she’s been busy putting stuff online already, please watch the video of her cat, it clearly knew it was safe in the middle of the hole!

Unfortunately, as the members have to stay away and as we are not allowed to use chemicals to get rid of the grubs the birds are having a field day. As you can see Ian and his team are trying a few different ways to try and disperse them.

Golf on Tour

Success at the final hurdle

Chris Kirk showed us how golf is more than just a sport at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

The multiple-time winner had to walk away from a successful golf career in 2019 due to mental health struggles and alcoholism, getting himself on the road to recovery. The PGA Tour gave him a chance to regain his full status over a limited number of events, culminating at the Sony Open, where he needed at least a two-way tie for third to secure his card for the 2021 season.

Well, an outstanding birdie on the 72nd hole left him in a two-way tie for second for one of the most heart-warming comeback stories imaginable. Not only that but it's also a great example of making sure you keep going right until the very last hole.
