We Have A Date I’m sure many of you were like me relieved but disappointed with the government’s announcement on Monday with regards to getting back into golf. Whilst I’m glad to have a definitive start date I’m also disappointed that we will lose most of March even though schools are reopening at the start of the month and restrictions are starting to be lifted. It’s frustrating that golf has proved itself to be a COVID safe sport over the last year, lending itself well to social distancing with all clubs taking responsibility to ensure players are in the safest environment possible, allowing them to get out in the fresh air to play the game, exercise, meet people and have fun. For many it’s been the only thing that’s remained fairly normal over the last 12 months. Also, unless the government have been watching videos of golf from my old club in Scunthorpe in the 1990s, it’s not a contact sport and I don’t see why we are returning at the same time as football and rugby, surely we should be allowed out before them? That said there is positive news, we are coming back and we have a lot to catch up on, look forward to and enjoy from the end of March onwards. Also in the grand scheme of things it looks like we can get back to more normal life in general come summer which I’m sure is something we are all desperate for.
As I write this we still haven’t had clarification on coaching and club fitting or the size of the groups we will be able to play in but we are expecting an update in the next couple of days. With a bit of luck, we should be able to return to four balls straight away, taking pressure of the new tee booking system on its first week in use. That said we are starting to plan our coaching diary and you will see attached the get into golf sessions. If you know someone who is keen or have any questions please contact me. We will be updating you over the next few weeks with other projects and specials we are offering as we get back into golf.
On The Course As you will have seen from last week’s newsletter and club mail the course is looking very different. This weeks update is especially for the turf lovers amongst you, the guys have worked through the weekend and pretty much completed laying the new grass. One positive of the delay in getting back is it gives it a couple of extra weeks to bed in before we start lobbing balls off it. I’ve had a couple of walks out to see what it looks like now the diggers have gone and it looks less like a building site and the changes look superb. When the green able to get the different cutting patterns on to the 6th it will look even better.
Jonathan also alluded to other projects the club have been looking into during lockdown including updating the driving range to include covered bays. I know many have been asking for this for a number years and I believe the project originally started with Philip about 15 years ago. This is work in progress and when we have more I’ll update you on this. |
