Hello and welcome to this week's newsletter where I'm pleased to say that the course has been fully open all week.
Last Sunday saw the Junior Academy team in their first practice match of the season against the Perse School Cambridge. The match was played in great spirit and I received an email this week complimenting Saffron Walden on the condition of the course, our hospitality, the attitude of the boys involved and the way that they conducted themselves on the course. The Saffron Walden team showed less hospitality on the course beating their opponents 5-0. Christie Woosey led the way with a 2 and 1 victory in the opening singles match and the remaining 4 pairs matches were won by the score 3 and 2.
We will be looking to play them again before the season starts in April to sharpen up on our foursomes and greensomes play. Well done to all those involved.
Over the next few weeks as we get back onto main greens I will be going through a few exercises to improve your short game. These drills only take a few minutes and I'm a great believer that you only have to practice the correct things for 5 -10 minutes a day to see a big improvement to your game. A lot of these drills can be done at home.
One handed putting drill
To get the feeling of swinging and releasing the putter head try practicing using the right hand only. Done correctly this will lead to a true sense of rolling the ball and not guiding the outer to the target. For those using a non-face balanced putter you will notice that the club wants to ark on the way back and through impact rather than straight up and down the line.
