Hello and welcome to this weeks newsletter.
Wednesday saw the March meeting of the Slade. 16 players ventured out onto the course with mixed results.
I partnered Dave Batt or 'Refurb' as he is now known, we got off to a flyer but seeing we weren't going to come last, had a steady back 9 and finished on 38 points.
The winners, amassing 42 points in cold conditions were Keith Fletcher and George Reynolds. Even though they were not able to make the meal at night they, will be pleased to know that this didn't stop the rest have a drink on their behalf and the tab is behind the bar.
Propping up the field on count back with 31 points were Vic Wood and Simon Noakes.
The next meeting is in April just before the tour.
With the new golfing season just about to begin and with just a hint of spring in the air the Seniors section has got off to a good start.
A better ball stableford competition was held on Monday 9th with 46 entries and the pairs being drawn out of the hat. Good scores were seen all round and the winners on countback were Tony Brown and Eric Grant with 46 points. Hugh Jenkins and Geoff Mansfield were second with Mike Spicer and David Boatman in third.
Nearest the Pin on the 18th was Jim Mein winning a prize donated by Rob, for which we were very grateful.
A great day was capped with a welcome return to the newly refurbished clubhouse for a delicious lunch.
Monday, 16 March saw the first seniors match of the season at home against Haverhill. The excellent course condition together with the tricky Greens gave the hosts a slight advantage and Saffron Walden were victorious 6 - 2.
