Greetings from Rob McNicholas
Saffron Walden Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

As you can see from the pictures, the golf marathon was completed last Friday by Kieran, Cam, Colin and Simon. Thanks to Les Dobson for all the pictures, especially the night golf. A special thanks also to all the helpers, caddies and dieticians! The four were put on a specially constructed diet by Michael Jones of Square Melon to ensure they made it through the day.

All proceeds for the day were raised for the children's charity Fledglings. The 121 hole challenge beat the old record set 15 years ago, but rumour has it, next years captain Chris Porter is in training and in the search for volunteers to take it a step further!

The 2015 CAGU Division 1 Champions played their last match of the season at the Windmill Hill club last Wednesday.

For the game, with one eye on the future, Graham Goodman picked a team made up of A players and squad team members.

Out first, the ever reliable pairing of Ryan Adair and Tom Duggan slotted home birdies at will and raced to a 4 up victory over Taylor and Fleming.

Callum Brookes and Spencer Burlingham, the "find" pairing of the year, took on Jones and Prieistley. Walden were 1 up through 9 holes and went through the last 9 holes in 1 under to finish 7 up. This included Burlingham holing his second on the 14th from 50 yds for a birdie.

In the final pairing James Goodfellow and Ross Fraser took on Russell and Wilkins. The Walden pairing held their own, but they lost the 14th,16th and 17th to lose 3 down.

Graham Goodman team captain said:

"A good way to finish a winning league season. In the end we amassed 34 points, with a 68 holes up advantage - a champion winning performance. Today Adair and Duggan finished off the scratch season as the only 100% victorious pairing. This evening also showed us the potential next year of the Burlingham and Brookes axis; bludgeoning power and the sublime rhythmic swing of youth. An interesting club championships awaits next week."

Ladies Scratch Team season ends

The Ladies Scratch team have spent the season battling against Bourne and St Neots in division 3, playing each home and away...

Justine, Linda, Jackie and Kiyoko fought hard in some excellent matches, and missed out on promotion to division 2 by just 1 point!

A fantastic effort to you ladies, and all the best for a promotion next season!

Yellow Ball Competition
- Tuesday, 14 July

Eighty two ladies took part in the Yellow Ball, Shot Gun Start competition on Tuesday, 14 July. Unfortunately the last few holes were played in heavy rain, however the teams came in with some good scores.

The winners with 78 points were Vilma Krinks, Sue Gunter, Linda MacFarlane and Sue Hollingworth.

In second place, Anthea Boon, Judy MacLeod, Anne Cunningham and Lesley Hann with 77 points and in third place with 74 points, Pat Clarke, Lynda Minton, Melissa Jones and Fiona MacKeating.

This week I've been in Norfolk trying out the latest putting gadget. I have a tendency to get too much inside the line, but when Johnny dribbles on the ball I know I'm set to go!

As you can see he also glares at poor etiquette from the gallery behind.( His mum and sister)

Two common faults I often see with a driver set up when teaching are; weight too left sided , and open shoulder alignment. These are both caused by the alteration with the ball position for the driver. As it's moved left in the stance for a right handed player, the weight tends to go with it, and the shoulders open at the same time.Read more...
